Also known as “D-Day” Commonly known as D-Day, the Battle at Normandy was carried out by a 12,000 plane airborne assault that had been preceded by an amphibious assault involving almost 7,000 vessels. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on June 6th. By the end of August of that same year, more than 3 million troops were in France.
